Cigar Guide - Unbanded Blind Smoke What Cigar I am Smoking
5th Apr 2021
What's going on, everyone? Welcome to another episode of Mondays with Mardo. I'm Gerard. This week, we're going to blindfold me and I'm going to try to guess what cigar I'm going to be smoking. But before I get going, I need you to click on that subscribe button every, click on the bell to be notified every single week of Mondays with Mardo.
All right. So this is pretty exciting. It's probably going to be the funnest video I've ever done. So what's going to happen today is Michael is going to blindfold me and then he's going to pick out a cigar and I'm going to smoke it. I'm going to see if I'm going to be able to guess what it is. Now, to be a little bit more fair for myself, I got the ability to choose the cigars myself. I chose eight cigars that I have smoked before. To make it a little bit more challenging though, I made sure they're all the same size and I chose Robustos, and pretty much the same ring gauge. So now therefore they're closer in proximity and it's going to be a little bit more difficult.
To pick out a cigar out of the thousands of cigars we have in the humidor would be very difficult for me to know exactly what I'm smoking, because there are some cigars that I've never smoked. So what if Michael picked something that I've never smoked? There's no way I'll be able to guess. So Michael will take a picture of the eight cigars. I'm going to be blindfolded and he's going to pick a cigar out and he's going to take off the band, light it and assist me with smoking. I'm only going to smoke one cigar. The fun is to see if I'll be able to know what cigar it is. I'm a little nervous, but we'll see. We'll have fun with it. So why don't we get going? And then I'll catch up with the guys at the end in the comments.
All right. So I got the blindfold and Michael is going to come around and put it on and help me. So what Michael's going to do is he's going to shuffle the cigars after he takes the... I can see a little bit, so make it a little bit tighter, Michael. All right. So if I don't move a lot, I won't be able to see.
Can you see my hand in front of you?
What? No.
Okay. We're good to go.
I honestly cannot see. This is not would be fun if I would be able to see. So the only thing is I hope I can breathe so I can retro. Okay. I still can't see anything.
Okay. So let's shuffle the cigars.
I'm a little bit nervous, to be honest with you.
Just in case he'd caught a glimpse.
I'm like 50% confident, 50%. Like, "What if I don't know?"
Okay.
So again, everybody, I chose the eight cigars, all in the Robusto size, all around the same ring gauge. Some of them I've smoked only once. So we'll see.
I got the cigar. I'm going to cut it too. All right. I'll put the cigar in your hand.
This is the cut end. It's smoother.
Yeah.
Dude. It's so weird blindfolded. Did you take the band off?
I did.
Can I smell it?
Yeah. Go for it.
In my ear is a little plug so it kind of throws off my balance. All right.
Okay. Let's see. All right. There we go. Much better.
This is the Warped Maestro del Valle. Hello?
Yeah.
It is?
Do you want me to confirm or do you want to... I'll give you... I'll say no so that way you can have another guest.
It's not?
No. It's not Warped Maestro del Valle?
No, it is not.
Oh, damn it. I thought you... Dude, really?
Yeah. Okay. Now, is this the 61R or 61-22R or whatever?
No, it is not. We'll give you one more chance to get the correct answer. Do you have any final?
Oh, shit. I know what this is.
Do you have a final guess?
No, hold on. Maybe, I don't know what it... Honestly, this is a Cuban Cohiba.
Final answer?
Yeah.
All right. You can go ahead and take off the blindfold and I will show you the band.
Oh, really? Daughters of the Wind Robusto. I'm really shocked. Yeah. We sell the ton of these. All right. We're back and the blindfold has been removed completely with my hat back on. The blindfold was on so tight that my hearing wasn't really clear. I know that that can throw off my equilibrium. I continued smoking the cigar. Lighting in blindfold definitely didn't give it the cleanest burn. So it's starting to catch up and starting to correct itself. As of right now, I'm still smoking it and it is an enjoyable cigar. So was it that two of my senses were somewhat... One of them was completely blocked and other one was obstructed with the blindfold that really threw off my taste buds as well.
It is not sour now. It has very nice fruity hints, complex, a little bit of sweetness there. It's smooth. It's a very nice cigar. I actually do not want to put this cigar down. It is the Daughters of the Wind Robusto. So what an experiment. You guys got to see it firsthand, but the reason why I thought it was the Warped right off the bat is I smoked a Warped and it's a very peppery cigar. So it was very pepper in the beginning and the draw wasn't coming out really well. It was very airy. It wasn't tight. I wasn't getting a good vacuum.
Then I started tasting that sourness. So Cohiba Robusto is the one that I have the box. It's a pretty recent box so I knew that Cuban Cohiba Robustos need some age. So when I was tasting that sourness, but that pepper was going away as I was smoking it, I was like, "Maybe it's the Cuban Cohiba because that sourness of it." Anyway, let me know in the comments if you guys have ever done this experiment or if you're willing to do it and let us know so we can have some interaction.
