Best advice for a NEW Cigar Smoker

20th Sep 2023

You smoke the cigar, we don't want to inhale you. Just puff on it. As you puff... Hi, welcome to another episode of Mondays with Mardo's. I'm Gerard. This week we're going to talk about what is my best advice for a new cigar smoker. But before I get going, I need you to click on that subscribe button. Click on the bell to be notified every single week of new episodes on Mondays with Mardo's. Well, gosh, that is somewhat of a loaded question because there's so much a new cigar smoker needs to be introduced to as to what cigar to pick out, how to light a cigar, how to cut a cigar, how to put out a cigar, how to smoke a cigar. But what I am going to suggest are pretty simple things.

We have the age of technology and we have so many YouTube videos, and just the things that you need to do is learn on obviously how to light a cigar, how to smoke a cigar, and how to put out a cigar. Aside from picking out your cigar, that's a whole different topic. But when it comes to the actual physical smoking it is you need to learn how to light it. Yes, there is a certain way and there's a certain type of flame you want to use. You don't want to use lighter fluid because the byproduct can really tarnish the flavor of your cigar. And so therefore, you want to use something with butane. And then you do want a torch lighter so you can really toast the foot of the cigar. And when you do toast the foot of the cigar, you want to blow on it, make sure it's a nice cherry, a nice hot cherry, and then you start puffing on the cigar.

Okay, so we got that aspect down and you got it, how to light the cigar. Watch some videos. There's a lot of videos on how to light your cigar. When you smoke the cigar, we don't want to inhale. You just puff on it. As you're puffing on the cigar, if it's a little harsh, make sure you have something to drink along with it. I'm talking about something refreshing. I'm not talking about something that's going to make you drunk. Don't need to be a big shot here. Don't get all crazy with it. This is your first time, second or third time smoking a cigar, just enjoy the cigar. Get something to drink to refresh your palate. That way you can actually be able to withstand if the cigars a little bit too strong for you.

And number two, if you want to choose something that is a wise drink, is get something that has a lot of sugar in it. Reason being is because nicotine sears the sugar in your bloodstream, and therefore, you want some sugar in the drink to replace that within your bloodstream so you don't get that nauseated feeling, that nauseous feeling when you're smoking a cigar. Number three, when you're done with the cigar, we don't want to try to ash out the cigar or snuff out the cigar by smashing it into the ashtray. That's going to make a very foul smell. It's going to make your fingers stink, and it's going to really create a lot of smoke, and it's just going to be very unattractive. All you do is just place the cigar in the ashtray and it'll go out by itself. So these are the top three advice that I have for a new cigar smoker.

Now, as an extra bonus, if it's not in your budget, don't do it. Just because somebody's like, "Oh my God, that's the best cigar I've ever had. It's $50. It's limited. You can't find it," you don't need to go down that rabbit hole. It is too early for you to do that. Just enjoy whatever you can afford within your budget, and then enjoy the cigar, whatever you're buying, don't fall into that. Halfwheel.com is a blog system, whatever you want to call it, where you can go and search almost any cigar that you want to have a review on and read about it. Don't get hung up on the total score of the cigar, but more than anything, look at the flavor profile of the cigar and the nuances and see if that's something you like. Some cigars are going to be very peppery and you're like, "I don't want pepper." Keep searching for things that are going to be a little bit more creamy.

You can also Google. Google is a very, very, very powerful search engine. Say, "What is the creamiest cigars out there? What is the peppered cigars out there? What are flavored cigars? Do I want flavored cigars?" You can ask Google any question. And last but not least, definitely subscribe to our YouTube channel right here at mardocigars.com. We have a host of videos that will really help you when it comes to storing cigars, things like that. But again, this one, I just want to keep it to how to light a cigar, how to smoke a cigar, and how to put out a cigar. I hope this helps. Let me know in a comments what else you'd like for me to do. I won't get up and dance on this table. Sorry, that's not going to happen. But I'll see you guys next week.
