4th Aug 2023

Yeah, sometimes I wake up feeling like Popeye and I just want to smoke like two cigars.

Hi, and welcome to another episode of Mondays with Mardos. I'm Gerard. This week in the Beginner's Cigar Guide we're going to talk about if I get buzzed from cigars. That's a pretty good question.

So that is a very good question. Do I get buzzed from cigars? That is one thing that I do not like about cigars or any kind of smoking is when I get a full on nicotine buzz. So you're asking, "Then, Gerard, why are you smoking cigars if you don't like the buzz?" I don't always get a buzz from cigars. Only about 10% of the time do I ever feel a buzz from cigars, and how does that happen? I don't know why it happens. I'm not a doctor, but sometimes I smoke a cigar and I can feel like it's really kicking my butt with the nicotine buzz and it doesn't feel very good.

One of the things that I can do to remedy that feeling is get something that is loaded with sugar. Replacing the sugar within my bloodstream will help with the nausea and that buzzed feeling. However, to make sure that I don't get fully buzzed, I do whatever I can to smoke a cigar a little bit slower than usual. So you want to kind of puff on a cigar, you don't want to inhale it. If you inhale it, you're going to get pretty sick because there's definitely a lot of nicotine content within the tobacco. Ammonia is another byproduct of the tobacco, and that's why we age cigars, to remove the ammonia, because that is what can also get you nauseated and make you very, very sick.

What do I do not to get buzzed from cigars? I make sure that I've had at least something to eat, and more than anything kind of sounds weird, but I know my body, right? Sometimes I wake up and then my friends, if we're on vacation, they're already ready to have a smoke in the morning. In the morning, I like a cup of coffee, so I already have a little bit of caffeine on board, and if I'm going to have a cigar on top of that with the nicotine, I'm not going to be feeling very well. Going to get really green, pale, low blood pressure. I'm going to need to lay down.

So in the mornings, I just don't like a cigar. Have I had the craving in mornings to have a cigar? Yeah, sometimes I wake up feeling like Popeye and I just want to smoke two cigars in a row. I'm totally fine. It's weird. But for the most part, my body is a very good sense of how I'm going to feel if I smoke a cigar. If I'm not [inaudible 00:02:34], it's probably not a good idea, but the tips that I do. Smoke slow, have something on board, like some kind of food. I have water and if you feel like, yeah, you might get nauseated, but you do want to enjoy a cigar, definitely have a drink with a lot of sugar in it.
