The single guillotine cutter is made with a 420 stainless steel blade inside of a stainless steel exterior case with a Cerakote OD Green finish. Each cutter has an MSRP of $395 and includes a replacement blade.
Design-wise, the Guillotina de Saka includes a number of unique aspects, starting with the steel blade is designed to be easily replaceable by consumers without having to use any special tools. In addition, the cutter is designed with a different-sized opening on each side of the case; one side is designed to cut for cigars up to 48 ring gauge, while the other is designed for cigars of 50 ring gauge and thicker.
Steve Saka, founder of Dunbarton, has been developing the cutter with Luigi Lucente, a product development engineer at CigarMedics, Inc. Lucente also designed The Baller, a cigar cutter that combines aspects of both a punch cutter and a v-cutter into one product. In an extreme rarity, the cutters are made in America.
According to Saka, the impetus behind the Guillotina de Saka came from his experience using the Cigar Bris Tool, a single guillotine cutter with a plastic body that Drew Estate sold until mid-2000. Saka worked as a Drew Estate executive and partner from 2005-2013.
In an email, Saka told halfwheel that about 1,000 cutters will begin shipping this week and that “only our most supportive accounts will have access” to purchase them. Saka also said that he does not plan to ship any more cutters this year. The cutter has been in development for a few years and around 150 prototypes were handed out to various people last year.
When the cutter was first announced, Saka indicated that he would not sell them due to their high manufacturing costs. He intended to use the cutters as promotional items but eventually reversed course and will now offer the cutters for sale.
