A Second Shot at a Cigar Almost Nobody Got

Here's the part that matters to you today: Patina y Viso ReVerdigris is open for pre-order at Mardo right now, and it's expected to ship in November. If you missed the original, this is the first time in a while that getting one has been a realistic plan rather than a long shot.

Because the original really was a long shot. The first Verdigris was made in a run of roughly 300 bundles of ten and went to about ten stores nationwide. That's the backdrop for this whole release, and it's why "they're bringing it back" is bigger news than it sounds.

ReVerdigris keeps the original blend and adds a red "RE" to the artwork.

    AT A GLANCE

    • A Patina Cigars × Viso Horny collaboration — Mo Maali and Tyler Jeffery.
    • Same blend as the original Verdigris. Nothing reinvented.
    • 5 × 52 Robusto, rolled at NACSA in Nicaragua, in bundles of 10.
    • Shipping expected late October into November 2026, subject to change.
    • Open for pre-order at Mardo — $14 a cigar, $140 the bundle.

    The Sequel Nobody Asked For

That's not our line. It's printed on the packaging. Patina y Viso ReVerdigris is literally sold under the tagline "The Sequel Nobody Asked For," which tells you most of what you need to know about the two people behind it.

It's a joke that's also a strategy. Boutique brands spend a lot of energy convincing you that the newest thing is the most important thing. These two put a red "RE" in front of their own cigar's name and leaned into the fact that they're repeating themselves on purpose.

The Two Names on the Band

This is a collaboration between Mo Maali of Patina Cigars and Tyler Jeffery of Viso Horny. Both run small, independent brands, and both have built followings on personality as much as on blends.

You can find both of them on our shelves already. Patina's regular line starts around $10.50, and Viso Horny's Ligador Fantasma Robusto is in stock at $15. If you want to know who you're buying from before the ReVerdigris arrives, that's an easy way to find out. Our rundown of cigar brands worth knowing is a good companion if you're newer to the boutique side of the shop.

The Artwork Is Not Random. It's a Map.

Here's the detail we think is the most fun thing about this release, and it's one most coverage skips right past.

Maali and Jeffery both come from the Midwest, but from different cities. On the original Verdigris packaging, one side carried the Milwaukee Art Museum, a nod to Jeffery, and the other carried the Chicago skyline, a nod to Maali. So when you look at the vintage-inspired green-and-cream artwork and see a city skyline and an airplane, that's not generic travel decoration. It's two guys from two cities who had to meet somewhere to make a cigar together.

The green, naturally, is the whole point of the name. Verdigris is the blue-green patina that forms on copper over time, which is also a neat fit for a brand called Patina. The original even shipped with a green ribbon on the bundle. These guys think about this stuff.

    What's Actually Inside

The Patina y Viso ReVerdigris blend is unchanged from the original, and that's the headline decision of this release. An Ecuadorian Habano wrapper sits over an Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed binder, with Nicaraguan filler underneath. It's a 5 × 52 Robusto, handmade at NACSA in Nicaragua, packed in bundles of ten.

We're going to stop there, because we haven't smoked it. No tasting notes, no strength rating, no "expect notes of" from us. We can tell you what's in it and who made it. What it does in your hand is something we'll report after we light one. If you're still building your palate vocabulary in the meantime, our guide on what cigars actually taste like is a better use of your time than anyone's guess about this one.

Why a Returning Blend Is Worth Your Attention

Patina y Viso ReVerdigris is limited for an unusual reason. Most limited editions are limited because the blend is new and the tobacco ran out. This one is limited because it was always limited, and then it ended.

That's a different proposition for you as a buyer. You're not being asked to gamble on an untested idea. You're being offered a second shot at something that already existed and that almost nobody got to try. For a boutique collaboration, bringing it back unchanged is arguably the riskier move — there's no "new and improved" to hide behind. Either the blend holds up or it doesn't.

    Mardo's take

    • We love the attitude here. In an industry permanently chasing the next thing, Patina and Viso Horny brought back something that already made its mark and put a joke about it on the box. The personality, the artwork and the decision to leave the blend alone are exactly what makes boutique cigars worth following.
    • Is it worth chasing? If you follow either brand, or you remember hearing about the original and never found one, yes — the run is small and pre-orders are how you get in line. If you've never smoked either maker, we'd grab a single rather than commit to a bundle of ten sight unseen.
    • What we won't do is tell you how it smokes. We haven't lit one. When we do, you'll get the honest version. Sometimes the best sequel is the one nobody saw coming.

Because the first Verdigris was tiny. It was made in a run of roughly 300 bundles of ten and reached about ten stores, so most people never had a chance at one. Returning it unchanged is also the harder move, since there is no 'new and improved' angle to hide behind.
