We Smoked the OpusX Society Gold and Bullet: 91 Points, and Here Is Why
A Cigar Everyone Wanted to Judge
Few releases this year carried more weight than the OpusX Society Gold and Bullet. It has the Fuente name, a striking box and a long wait behind it. It finally reached stores in 2026, about a year and a half after it was first shown.
With that much excitement, it is easy to let the hype do the talking. We did not. We smoked it, judged it on its own terms and gave it a score. Our rating is 91 points. Here is how we got there.

AT A GLANCE
- Mardo rating: 91/100, from our own smoking experience.
- Size: 6¾ x 50 parejo, each cigar in a gold sleeve.
- Strengths: outstanding appearance, dense construction, flawless burn.
- Flavor: white pepper up front, with a light hint of sweetness.
- Packaging: collectible boxes of 12.
What Is the OpusX Society Gold and Bullet?
Fuente The OpusX Society is a partnership between Arturo Fuente and Manny Iriarte Enterprises. It creates special OpusX releases for a club of devoted fans. Gold and Bullet is the Society's second cigar, after La Edición de la Sociedad. It is also the first chapter of a new series called The Society Chronicles.
The cigar is made by Arturo Fuente in the Dominican Republic. It measures 6¾ x 50, a classic toro size. The blend has not been disclosed, and the company has only said that it differs from the first Society release. Each cigar comes wrapped in a gold sleeve and rests in an ornate box of 12.
How Many Were Made?
The production number has changed, so we checked it carefully. When Gold and Bullet was first announced, it was limited to 1,500 numbered boxes. By the time it shipped, production had been set at 2,500 boxes of 12 cigars per year.
Either way, this is a small run for a cigar with so much demand. That scarcity is a big part of its appeal. It is also exactly why we wanted to separate the rarity from the smoke.

Appearance: Built to Impress
Before you light it, the OpusX Society Gold and Bullet makes a strong first impression. The wrapper is attractive and even, and the roll is neat and tight. The gold sleeve and the box add to the sense of occasion. On looks alone, this is one of the best-presented cigars we have handled this year.
Construction and Burn: Where It Shines
This is where the OpusX Society Gold and Bullet earns most of its points. The cigar is impressively dense. It feels solid in the hand, with no soft spots from foot to head.
The burn was flawless. The line stayed even through the whole smoke, and we never needed a touch-up. That kind of performance shows the care that Arturo Fuente is known for. If you judge a cigar on how it is built and how it burns, this one is close to perfect.
Flavor: White Pepper Takes Center Stage
The flavor is bold and clear. White pepper leads from the first draws and stays in charge. A light hint of sweetness sits underneath it and keeps the pepper in balance.
What we did not find was a lot of change along the way. The profile stays fairly straight from start to finish. For many smokers, that steady pepper will be enjoyable. But for a release this exclusive, we hoped for more layers and more development. The flavor did not quite reach the level of the craftsmanship.
Mardo's take
- We judge cigars by how they smoke, not by their rarity, packaging or reputation. The OpusX Society Gold and Bullet earns a respectable 91 points for its outstanding appearance, excellent construction and flawless burn.
- The flavor is more straightforward than the price and prestige suggest. White pepper dominates, with a subtle hint of sweetness. It performs beautifully, but the complexity does not match the exclusivity.
- Is it worth chasing? For Fuente collectors, yes: the 12-count box is a true collector's piece. If you buy for flavor alone, know that the craftsmanship stands out more than the blend. We don't just sell cigars. We smoke them, evaluate them and tell you exactly what we think.
Who Should Buy It?
Collectors of OpusX will want a box of the OpusX Society Gold and Bullet. It is the first chapter of a new series, and the presentation is stunning. Fans of bold, peppery cigars will also enjoy it, especially if they value a perfect burn.
If you prefer cigars that change a lot from one third to the next, keep your expectations in check. You may want to start with a single before you commit to a full box. You can compare it with other releases in our Opus X collection.
