Colibri SV Cutter Review: The 2-in-1 V-Cut and Straight Cutter
Colibri SV Cutter Review: My Everyday 2-in-1
You've got a great cigar in your hand, and the last thing you want is a cutter that crushes the cap or hacks off too much. I'm Gerard from Mardo Cigars, and in this Colibri SV cutter review I'll show you why this two-in-one tool has become my everyday favorite. It's a V-cutter and a straight guillotine in a single tool, and once you understand how the depth control works, you'll never look at a cheap cutter the same way again.
The quick answer
If you only read one section, here it is:
- A $75 two-in-one: the deepest adjustable V-cut plus a straight guillotine.
- The V-cut depth is fully adjustable, from a thin Lancero to a 50-plus ring gauge.
- The straight side handles cigars up to a 70 ring gauge.
- Heavy, ergonomic build backed by a two-year warranty.
- Comes in black, gun metal, rose gold, and chrome-and-black.

What's inside
What Is the Colibri SV Cutter?
The Colibri SV-Cut is a two-in-one cigar cutter, meaning you get two completely different cut styles in a single tool. On one side you have a deep V-cut (also called a cat's-eye or wedge cut), and on the other you have an S-shaped straight guillotine cut. Instead of carrying two separate cutters, the Colibri SV cutter covers both jobs, which is why it lives in my pocket most days. The build is solid Colibri quality, and at $75 it sits in that sweet spot between a disposable plastic cutter and an overpriced luxury piece.
The V-Cut: The Deepest on the Market
The V-cut is my favorite, and this is where the Colibri SV cutter really shines. In my experience it's one of the deepest V-cutters out there, but the magic is that you control how deep you go. You're not locked into one fixed cut.
Here's why that matters. Say you have a Lancero, like a RoMa Craft CroMagnon Aquitaine Atlatl. That's a thin, small ring gauge cigar. If you shove it all the way in and clamp down, the V-cut takes off way too much. Instead, as you press down, use your finger as a gauge to control how far the cigar goes in. Ease it down and you get a clean, shallow V that's perfect for a Lancero. If you don't take enough the first time, no problem, just go back and cut a touch more until the depth is right. For a bigger cigar, a 50 ring gauge or up, you can comfortably run it all the way through and get a full, deep V every time.
The Straight Cut: A Guillotine for Big Ring Gauges
V-cuts are my go-to, but sometimes you need a straight cut, especially on a sharp, pointy, torpedo-shaped cigar. The back of the Colibri SV-Cut is an S-shaped straight guillotine cutter with an aperture that handles cigars up to a 70 ring gauge, so it swallows just about anything in your humidor.
One detail I love: the guillotine depth is governed to about three millimeters. That means you physically can't chop off too much of the cap, which protects the wrapper and keeps your cigar from unraveling. It's a small engineering touch that saves beginners from a very common mistake. If you're still deciding which cut style suits you, our guide on when to use a punch vs. a guillotine cutter breaks it down.
Build Quality, Feel and Warranty
Part of what sells me on the Colibri SV cutter is simply how it feels. It's heavy, bold, and solid, with an ergonomic shape that sits comfortably in your hand. It doesn't feel like a throwaway gadget; it feels like a tool you'll keep for years. Colibri backs that up with a two-year warranty, which is reassuring at this price point. If ring gauge terms like 50 and 70 are new to you, our explainer on whether ring gauge matters is worth a read before you buy.

- Rose gold — a little bit of bling for those who want to stand out.
- Chrome and black — a sleek two-tone finish.
Is the Colibri SV Cutter Worth $75?
In my opinion, yes. For $75 you get two premium cutters in one, adjustable V-cut depth that works on any size cigar, a straight guillotine for the big torpedoes, top-tier Colibri build quality, and a two-year warranty. If you only buy one cutter this year, the Colibri SV cutter is one of the best on the market, and it earns its spot as my everyday favorite.
