Five Dominican cigar brands worth a place in your humidor.

    Why Dominican Cigars?

The Dominican Republic is one of the great cigar-making countries in the world, and towns like Tamboril are packed with talented boutique blenders. Dominican cigar brands are known for being smooth, refined, and beautifully balanced, which is exactly why they belong at the top of any must-try list.

One of the best things about Dominican cigars is their range. You can find an ultra creamy, mellow smoke that's perfect for a relaxed afternoon, and you can also find a bold, full-bodied stick with a dark Maduro wrapper that stands up to the strongest blends from anywhere else. That variety means there's a Dominican cigar for every palate, whether you're brand new to cigars or you've been smoking for decades.

The list below spans that whole spectrum on purpose. We've got a creamy boutique favorite, an unbeatable value pick, a surprising full-bodied stick, a gourmet blend from a famous blending family, and an exclusive Maduro you can only get from us. Here are five Dominican cigar brands worth your humidor space.

    1. Jake Wyatt Cigar Company

Origin: Tamboril, Dominican Republic · Profile: Ultra creamy and smooth Number one on the list is Jake Wyatt Cigar Company, a truly boutique maker out of Tamboril. The one in my hand is the U.S.I.R., and they also offer a Maduro, a Connecticut, and a candela-wrapped cigar. If you're looking for an ultra creamy, very smooth cigar, you have to try a Jake Wyatt.

    2. Davidoff Back2Back

Maker: Davidoff · Size: 5 x 50 Connecticut · Profile: Best bang for your buck Number two is the Back2Back, the Connecticut, from Davidoff. This is a 5 x 50 and one of our best sellers. It's phenomenal for the money, the best bang for your buck on this list. If you follow us on Instagram, you saw us feature this cigar this week.

    3. Blackbird (the Crow line)

Origin: Tamboril, Dominican Republic · Wrapper: San Andres Maduro · Strength: Full-bodied Number three is Blackbird, another great company out of Tamboril. I've actually had conversations with Demetrius, the owner. This is a full-bodied cigar and it surprised me. Many people think it's from Nicaragua, but no, it's from Tamboril, Dominican Republic, with a San Andres Maduro wrapper. This is the Crow line, and it's a beautiful cigar.

    4. Casdagli

Origin: Dominican Republic · Blender: Klaas Kelner · Profile: Gourmet, complex Worth mentioning is Casdagli, formerly known as Bespoke. They had to change the name due to trademark issues, and the owner's last name is Casdagli. It's made by Klaas Kelner, the son of Henrik Kelner, who was the master blender for Davidoff. Made in the Dominican Republic, this is like a chef's special gourmet cigar, with phenomenal flavors and superb construction. You will not be disappointed.

    5. Last Cowboy Maduro

Maker: La Aurora (owned by Sinistro) · Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf with a candela tip · Size featured: Lancero (exclusive) Last but not least is the Last Cowboy Maduro, made under La Aurora. It's owned by Sinistro, run by Coleman and James Agopian, who are close friends of mine. This cigar has a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper with a tiny tip of candela at the foot. It comes in many sizes, and this Lancero is an exclusive we got our hands on, only available on mardocigars.com.

How to Choose Your Dominican Cigar

With five great options on the table, picking your first one comes down to what you're in the mood for. If you want something easy and smooth, start with the ultra creamy Jake Wyatt or the Davidoff Back2Back, which is also the best value of the group. If you're after a bolder, fuller experience, reach for the Blackbird with its San Andres Maduro wrapper. And if you want to treat yourself, the gourmet Casdagli and the exclusive Last Cowboy Lancero are the showpieces of the lineup.

A great way to explore Dominican cigar brands is to try a couple side by side, the way you would compare two different blends. Notice the wrapper, the draw, and how the flavor changes from the first third to the last. Over time you'll learn which Dominican style fits your palate best, and you'll always have a go-to ready in your humidor.
