    I'm Gerard from Mardo Cigars, and this week I'm reviewing what I consider the best Connecticut cigar you can smoke: the Jake Wyatt Appendix II.     Why This Is My Favorite Connecticut Cigar

    Here is the problem with most Connecticut cigars. The wrapper inherently has a lot of bite. If it is not cured right, aged well enough, or blended properly, you get those harsh, herbal, green, grassy flavors that turn beginners off. That is exactly the flaw we set out to fix. The Appendix II wears an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over an Olor binder and all-Dominican fillers, and that blend tames the bite while keeping the sweetness. To me, this is the epitome of what a Connecticut should taste like, which is why I call it the best Connecticut cigar in our lineup.

    The Tasting: Third by Third

    First third. Right off the bat, a lot of cream and a super balanced toast. Think of a slice of bread with that light char, a little butter, and a sweet-salt note all at once. The draw is flawless with plenty of smoke, no sting, and none of that grassy herbal bite. Just the sweetness of a Connecticut done right. Second third. No soft spots at all, the construction stays solid in your fingers. The burn runs a touch hotter but is wrapped in that creamy, buttery, silky-smooth character. It never once made me reach for water. The burn line is consistent, and it takes a little more to pull because the smoke leaves the cigar slightly moist. Last third. Right down to the nub it is still burning strong. It gets warmer that far down, naturally, but the fact that I smoked it all the way tells you how much I enjoyed it. On the retrohale you get just a hint of that Connecticut grassiness, more muted than any Connecticut I have tried.

    The only other place I have tasted a Connecticut this refined is in the higher-end sticks that run $25 to $30 or even $35 each. At $10.50, that is why this is a box-worthy cigar.

    Construction and Craftsmanship

    One detail a lot of people miss is the ornate accents on the cigar. In the Jake Wyatt gourmet collection, every cigar takes two extra days to finish. After it comes out of the aging room, we add the stripes on the cap and foot, and then the dots the very next day. That extra step is part of why the construction and presentation feel a cut above, and why it held together so cleanly all the way down.
