Cigar Guide - Box Opening Opus EDITION
6th Sep 2021
Hi, and welcome to another episode of Mondays with Mardo's. This week, we are going to be unboxing a fantastic cigar. I want to talk about it a little bit as well, but before I get going and you click on that subscribe button, click on the bell to be notified every single week of new episodes on Mondays With Mardo's.
All Right. So right here, we have a box of Opus X Forbidden X 13. This cigar was actually released in year of 2011. And what was very cool about this cigar is that it was all Dominican, Dominican wrapper, Dominican binder, and Dominican filler. And it was introduced in a numerous of different sizes. Since then, the Opus X Forbidden X has been used for charity events. There've been also a special appearance cigar in the Aged Fuente Selection by Prometheus during Christmas, and then also during the spring, whenever you get like the Opus 6 or you get the Opus Story, that is basically the only other time you've been able to get the Opus X Forbidden X.
Now also, I believe it was in year 2019 or 2018, don't quote me on that, was when they did the TAA Special, and they came out with four different sizes. And then that was the only way you can get your hands on the OpusX 13. Now, fast forward to the last quarter of 2020, and the specific month of December 2020. Carlito Fuente did another surprise slam dunk release on us with the Rare Pinks. Now, along with the Rare Pinks, there was no mention whatsoever of this new release of the Forbidden X 13 Opus X, and they just showed up at retailers. And I've had this box in my collection. This is the Pasion d'Amor, "Passion d'Amor", meaning "passion of love." And this is 6-1/8" x 48 ring gauge. Now what's so different about these Opus X Forbidden X, other than the other ones.
Number one is the sizes. Number two, the packaging. This packaging mimics exactly the same of the Opus 20th Anniversary, which has the blue label, and also the Opus 2020 Dubai Exclusives. So this is the exact same shape. However, the artwork, the color and everything else, as you see, has the 13 on there. Now, rumor has it, 13 is Carlito's favorite number, or it's his lucky number, but I do know, universally, 13 is a lucky number. So it's a really, really cool creation by Carlito. Everything he does is just so beautiful right here. It's got the heart lock and key and the Forbidden X logo on there. And when you open it, you can see that it has the protection sheets on there for the cigars. And it has the hinges right here that has the Opus X emblem stamped right onto it. And you can just smell the Cedar.
Now this is a box of 20, and as you can see that, again, it does have the same exact layout of the Opus 20 or the Opus Dubai. However, the colors are completely different. The gloss is really, really shiny, and here is one box that I have been holding to open, but I finally did it for you guys on the video. This is 6-1/8" x 48 ring gauge. There is a pretty profound change in color between the wrapper of this release and the original release back in 2011. These are a little bit darker, and it is very obvious that crop from year to year always changes. But, however, the blend is still the same. And another thing that's different is these cigars actually had the Cedar wrapping, and it also has a black ribbon on the foot of the cigar.
Other than that, if you have any of these in your humidor, good for you. I have yet to smoke one. I do know that a different size, which was the, "Deseos", I believe is the name, was rated 91 by Halfwheel, so... Though a very well rated cigar, very hard to find. Let me know in the comments, what you think of this box. If you have one, you can go ahead and share with us in the comments.
